Our commitment to an inclusive AfriDish experience for everyone

Last updated: 22 April 2026

Our Commitment

AfriDish is committed to making our app and website accessible to everyone, regardless of disability, assistive technology, or device.

We aim to conform to Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA. This is an ongoing effort and we continuously work to improve the accessibility of our service.

AfriDish serves a global community — including users in Africa with older devices, slower connections, and diverse assistive technology setups. We design with all of them in mind.

What We Do

Screen reader support: we use semantic HTML, ARIA labels, and descriptive alt text on images to ensure compatibility with screen readers like NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver, and TalkBack.

Keyboard navigation: all interactive elements can be reached and activated using a keyboard alone, without requiring a mouse.

Colour contrast: we aim for a minimum 4.5:1 contrast ratio on all body text and 3:1 on large text and UI components.

Scalable text: the app is designed to work with browser text size settings up to 200% without loss of content or functionality.

Mobile accessibility: we follow iOS and Android accessibility best practices, including proper use of touch target sizes and system font scaling.

Language support: AfriDish is available in English, French, and Portuguese, with proper language attributes set on all pages for screen reader language detection.

Focus indicators: visible focus rings are present on all interactive elements for keyboard and assistive technology users.

Form labels: all form fields have visible and programmatically associated labels.

Known Limitations

Some complex data tables (nutrition tracking, earnings dashboards) may have limited screen reader experience on older assistive technologies. We are working to improve this.

User-generated content (community posts, nutritionist profiles) may not always meet accessibility standards. We encourage contributors to provide descriptive content.

Some third-party embedded content (Stripe payment pages) is controlled by those providers and may have their own accessibility limitations.

Low Bandwidth and Older Devices

Many of our users in Africa are on mobile data connections or older Android devices. We are committed to keeping AfriDish lightweight.

Core meal planning features work on 3G connections and on devices with limited processing power.

Images are optimised and served in modern formats (WebP). Large images are lazy-loaded.

The app does not require JavaScript for basic navigation and content display.

Feedback and Support

If you encounter an accessibility barrier on AfriDish, we want to know. Please contact us at support@afridish.co with a description of the issue and the device or assistive technology you are using.

We aim to respond to accessibility feedback within 5 business days.

If you need content in an alternative format (e.g. larger print, plain text, or a different language), contact us and we will do our best to assist.

Regulatory Compliance

We work towards compliance with the EU Web Accessibility Directive (applicable to EU users), the UK Equality Act 2010 (applicable to UK users), and Section 508 of the US Rehabilitation Act (applicable to US government-funded contexts).

If you believe AfriDish is not meeting its accessibility obligations under applicable law, contact us at support@afridish.co. You also have the right to contact the relevant national enforcement body in your country.
