Getting started
What is AfriDish and who is it for?
AfriDish is an AI-powered meal-planning app for the African community worldwide. We generate personalised weekly meal plans from a database of 1,200 African dishes, tailored to your health conditions (diabetes, hypertension, kidney disease, pregnancy, and more) and cultural cuisine preferences. It is for adults 18+ — both Africans on the continent and the diaspora in over 50 countries.
Do I need a credit card to start the free trial?
No. The 7-day free trial requires only an email address. You will only be asked for payment details if you choose to continue with a paid plan after the trial ends.
Which languages are supported?
AfriDish runs in English, French, and Portuguese — both the website and the app. More languages will be added in 2027.
Is AfriDish a substitute for a doctor?
No. AfriDish provides nutritional guidance only — it is not medical advice and does not replace a qualified doctor or dietitian. Always consult your healthcare provider before making significant dietary changes, especially for diabetes, hypertension, kidney disease, or pregnancy. See our medical disclaimer for full details.
Subscriptions & billing
What are the subscription tiers?
Standard ($9.99/month) — meal planner, grocery list, 1,200 dishes. Health Pro ($14.99/month) — adds condition-specific plans, doctor PDF reports, medication-diet alerts. Family Vault ($24.99/month) — adds up to 4 family profiles with different conditions, "cook once feed everyone" mode, and elderly care mode.
How do I cancel my subscription?
From /settings → Manage subscription, or directly from the Stripe customer portal we email you. Cancellations take effect at the end of the current billing period — you keep access until then. No further charges after cancellation. If you subscribed via Apple App Store or Google Play, cancel from your device subscription settings.
Can I get a refund?
EU/UK consumers can exercise the 14-day right of withdrawal under EU Directive 2011/83/EU by emailing support@afridish.co within 14 days of subscription start, unless the service was actively used during that period. Outside the EU, no prorated refunds are issued for partial periods. Refunds for genuine billing errors are issued on request.
Will my subscription auto-renew?
Yes — paid subscriptions automatically renew at the end of each billing period at the then-current price. We will notify you by email at least 30 days before any price change. You can cancel anytime to stop renewals.
Meal plans & dishes
How are meal plans generated?
AfriDish uses GPT-4o-mini to assemble a 7-day plan from our curated database of 1,200 African dishes. Your health profile (conditions, dietary preferences, cuisine preferences, household size) is used to filter dishes for safety and personalise the selection. No personal identifiers (name, email) are sent to the AI — only the structured health profile.
How accurate is the nutrition data?
Each dish has been reviewed by registered dietitians for calories, carbs, sodium, sugar, fiber, glycemic index, and condition-safety flags (diabetes, hypertension, kidney, pregnancy). When a dish is borderline for a condition, we flag it as "moderate" rather than "safe" to stay medically conservative.
Can I generate plans in metric or imperial?
AfriDish uses metric units for nutrition (mg, g) — these are clinically standard regardless of country. Portion sizes are described in cultural terms (e.g. "1 cup of jollof rice", "2 pieces of plantain") so they are immediately usable.
Family Vault & multi-profile
Who is Family Vault for?
Multi-generational African families. Add up to 4 profiles per account — parents, children, elderly relatives — each with their own health conditions, dietary needs, and cuisine preferences. The "cook once, feed everyone" mode generates one meal that is safe for every condition in the household.
Do children need their own AfriDish accounts?
No. Children are added as profiles under your adult account — they do not receive a login, email, or password. Children's profiles store only an age and dietary restrictions. AfriDish is for adults 18+ to operate; children do not access the app independently.
Account & privacy
How do I delete my account?
From /settings → Danger zone → Delete my account. You will be asked to type DELETE to confirm. Once confirmed, your account, health profile, meal plans, family members, bookings, and lab results are deleted within seconds. Any active Stripe subscription is cancelled immediately. You can also email privacy@afridish.co — we will action requests within 30 days.
Where is my data stored?
In Supabase (EU West region, Ireland) for all primary data. Meal plan generation uses OpenAI servers (US) — but only your structured health profile is sent, never your name or email. Stripe processes payments. We do not sell your data, run advertising, or share with data brokers.
How do I request a copy of my data?
Email privacy@afridish.co with the subject "Data export request". We will send you a JSON file containing all your data within 30 days, as required by GDPR Article 15.
I forgot my password
Click "Forgot password?" on the sign-in page. We will email you a reset link valid for 1 hour. If you do not receive the email within 5 minutes, check your spam folder or email support@afridish.co.
